Final Beijing 2022 medal count: Norway breaks record, U.S. outside top 3

The last medals have been awarded in Beijing, and competition across 109 events is complete.

Before the eyes of the Olympic movement turn to Paris, host of the 2024 Summer Games, let's look back at the final medal table from Beijing. By default, the table is ordered by the number of gold medals:

As it did at PyeongChang 2018, Norway stands alone atop the medal table. The nation of 5.4 million people came just short of eclipsing its record 39 total medals, but Norway set a new mark for most gold medals ever won at a single Winter Olympics.

Germany, with a population roughly 16 times that of Norway, ranked second.

The U.S. failed to crack the top three in either total golds or total medals, but it improved upon the 23 medals it won in PyeongChang.

Canada edged the U.S. for fourth with 26 total medals, but the northern nation managed just four golds. Canada took home 29 medals, including 11 golds, in PyeongChang.

Host China had its best-ever Winter Games performance, claiming the third-most gold medals (nine) and 15 total medals.
