U.S. snowboarder Deibold wins bronze in delayed snowboard cross
France's Pierre Vaultier came out on top in the men's snowboard cross on Tuesday, after many of the medal favorites were lost in a particularly unforgiving quarterfinal round. It was Vaultier's third Olympic games, but first time leaving with a medal: He finished ninth in the 2010 Olympics and dead last in 2006. Russia's Nikolay Olyunin won the silver, and American Alex Deibold claimed bronze.
Also, this is impressive:
Alex Deibold's story is amazing. In a way, he just went from team equipment guy in Vancouver to a bronze medal in Sochi. Heck of a 4 yrs.

The event was not short on crashes, especially when Canada's Chris Robanske lost his balance and ran into Germany's Paul Berg in the quarterfinal. Gold-medal favorite Alex Pullin, the 2011 and 2013 world champion, was also knocked out in the same stage after finishing fourth. Canadian Kevin Hill managed to make it to the semifinal, at least, only to be taken out of the running in another crash. He finished eighth overall after the small final.
Italy's Omar Visintin was taken off on a stretcher in the semifinal after a bad fall.

It was a slushy day on the mountain in Sochi, but at least the fog wasn't causing as many problems on Tuesday. The men's snowboard cross was originally scheduled for Monday, but visibility was an issue and organizers were forced to cancel.
