Men's Aerials: Belarus' Kushnir wins gold in his third Olympics

The third time was the charm for Belarus' Anton Kushnir.

Kushnir won gold in men's aerials on Monday, blowing away the competition with a 134.50 score in the third and super final. It was the highest score in any round of the competition. Kushnir, 29, finished 15th in the event in Vancouver in 2010, and eighth in Torino in 2006.

Australia's David Morris took home the silver with a score of 110.41, while China's Zongyang Jia won the bronze with a score of 95.06 in the super final.

Kushnir came to Sochi third in the World Cup standings, and he took advantage of an open field to win the gold. His countryman Alexei Grishin, who won gold in the event in Vancouver, didn't qualify for the final. China's Zhongqing Liu, a bronze medalist in Vancouver and the World Cup leader, suffered the same fate.

Kushnir took advantage of his opportunity and earned Belarus' fifth gold medal of the Games, to go along with one bronze.

The USA's Mac Bohonnon didn't qualify for the super final and finished in fifth place. Canada's Travis Gerrits finished seventh.
