What you need to know

The biggest stories you may have missed.

U.S. dominate 1st day of competition with 3 gold medals

The United States won three gold medals, the first courtesy of Kendall Gretsch in the women's 6-kilometer biathlon. Fellow American Oksana Masters would join Gretsch on the podium, winning silver. The other two gold medals were won by Dan Cnossen (men's 7.5-kilometer biathlon) and Andrew Kurka (alpine downhill).

Incredibly, the U.S. managed only three gold medals combined at the Paralympic Games at Sochi 2014 and matched it on Day 2 at PyeongChang 2018.

Canada's para ice hockey blow out Sweden 17-0

Canada got off to a pretty good start in ice hockey, routing Sweden 17-0 in its first game. Tyler McGregor scored four goals for Canada, complemented by Bryan Sholomicki, who netted a hat trick of his own.

Marcoux wins Canada's 1st gold medal at PyeongChang 2018

Mac Marcoux of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was brilliant in men's downhill, earning Canada's first and only gold medal on Day 2. Marcoux entered PyeongChang 2018 as a heavy medal favorite after winning gold in visually impaired giant slalom, as well as bronze in the downhill and super-G events at Sochi 2014.
