Red Gerard's family was 'shotgunning beers at 8:30 a.m.' before gold-medal win

American snowboarder Redmond "Red" Gerard made history Saturday night, not only becoming the first U.S. medalist at PyeongChang 2018 by claiming gold in slopestyle, but also becoming the first Winter Olympian born in the 2000s to win gold.

The 17-year-old's family celebrated it the only way they knew how: by partying. Hard.

They also partied before the event.

"I"m sure it's a ton," Gerard responded when asked about how much fun his family was having at the Olympics, according to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. "I'm pretty sure I saw a video of them shotgunning beers at 8:30 a.m., so I'm pretty sure they are doing just fine."

Indeed, NBC cameras captured family members with beers in hand before his gold-medal run.

South Korean authorities should probably be on high alert.

"If we're not in jail," Red's brother Brendan Gerard said of the family's celebration, "then something didn't go right."

"Right on," father Conrad Gerard added.
