Report: Liberty hiring Warriors assistant DeMarco as head coach
The New York Liberty are hiring Golden State Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco as their new head coach, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
DeMarco, who's been with the Warriors since 2012, helped Golden State win four NBA titles as a member of Steve Kerr's coaching staff. The 40-year-old has also served as the head coach of the Bahamas men's national team since 2019.
The Liberty began looking for a new head coach after deciding not to renew Sandy Brondello's contract in September, just a year after winning the WNBA title together.
New York also considered former Brooklyn Nets assistant Will Weaver, Phoenix Mercury associate head coach Kristi Toliver, and Toronto Raptors assistant Jama Mahlalela for its vacancy, according to ESPN's Alexa Philippou.
DeMarco will inherit a team that went 27-17 in 2025 before falling in the first round to the Mercury.
