Sun's Jones to sit out 2020 season
Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones has elected not to participate in the 2020 WNBA season, the team announced Monday.
"After careful thought and consideration I've decided to forego the upcoming WNBA season and use this time to focus on personal, social, and familial growth," Jones said in a statement. "This was one of the toughest decisions I've made but the resurgence and unknown aspects of COVID-19 have raised serious health concerns that I do not feel comfortable competing in."
Jones has spent her entire four-year WNBA career with Connecticut since being acquired from the Los Angeles Sparks in a draft-day deal.
The two-time All-Star averaged 14.6 points, 9.7 boards, and two blocks across 34 appearances last season. Jones also played an influential role in leading the Sun to their first WNBA Finals in 14 years.
"On behalf of our entire organization, we fully support JJ's difficult decision to sit out the 2020 WNBA season during these unprecedented times," Sun GM and head coach Curt Miller said in a statement.
