WNBA finalizing plans to hold 22-game season in Florida
The WNBA is finalizing plans to hold its 2020 season at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, the league announced Monday.
The campaign will consist of 22 regular-season games followed by a traditional playoff format.
"We are finalizing a season start plan to build on the tremendous momentum generated in the league during the offseason and have used the guiding principles of health and safety of players and essential staff to establish necessary and extensive protocols," said WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert in a statement. "We will continue to consult with medical experts and public health officials as well as players, team owners, and other stakeholders as we move forward with our execution plan."
The IMG academy will house each of the league's 12 teams and would serve as the lone site for training camp and games.
Clubs are scheduled to arrive in Florida in early July and regular-season action will tip off later that month following training camp.
Engelbert added that players will receive their full paychecks and benefits during the 2020 season.
