The Socceroos are set for a massive boost in the form of a return to fitness for their all-time leading scorer.

An unused substitute during the first leg of the intercontinental play-off against Honduras, Australia attacker Tim Cahill has been ruled fit for the return leg Wednesday in Sydney after bouncing back from an ankle worry.

"I’m feeling really good. It was awesome to train in Honduras and get two sessions in so I feel great. I feel like I’m going to be involved and it’s all about Wednesday night," the former Everton star told reporters, courtesy of the Herald Sun.

"I’ve had the best recuperation possible. I’m always wary there’ll be a bit of swelling and bruising in the ankle but I know how big the game is and I can’t wait for the opportunity to be involved or contribute in any way."

With a storied international career that could end with defeat to the Hondurans, Cahill prefers to look at the short term - securing a spot in a fourth consecutive World Cup.

"Once I’m available for selection I don’t think about my ankle or anything like that. I just think about the end result of contributing to getting to a fourth consecutive World Cup," the current Melbourne City veteran added. "After this game all of us have plenty of time to put our bodies back together, it’s a small sacrifice for such a big return."

Cahill tops the Socceroos' all-time list in goals (50) and sits second in caps (103).
