The Honduran football federation has claimed that a drone spotted over the country's training session belongs to Australia.

Controversy ensued after a drone was spotted hovering above Stadium Australia as Honduras prepared for Wednesday's crucial World Cup qualifying play-off.

The federation’s Twitter account posted a video of the supposed drone and accused Australia of spying on players to, presumably, gain an advantage ahead of the second-leg encounter.

The tweet reads: "Australia spies on Honduras' official training session from a drone; what caused the discomfort of the team and Honduran delegation."

The two countries played out a goalless draw in last week's first leg at the Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula.
