Bryce Harper wishes U.S. good luck before WBC opener
Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper may not be participating in the World Baseball Classic, but that doesn't mean he isn't supporting his country.
The 24-year-old superstar took to social media on Friday to wish good luck to his countrymen participating in the event.
Good luck to the boys as they start in the @wbcbaseball today! Have some fun and represent The USA well🇺🇸 #WEbelieve #Merica pic.twitter.com/3CGc4dVkGv

Even though Harper appeared to be psyched in 2013 about potentially playing for the U.S. at the event, his agent Scott Boras announced this past November that he would not participate so he can focus on his conditioning.
After a monstrous MVP campaign in 2015, Harper's numbers dropped dramatically last season.
SEASON | H | R | HR | RBI | OPS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2015 | 172 | 118 | 42 | 99 | 1.109 |
2016 | 123 | 84 | 24 | 86 | .814 |
Despite the absence of Harper and American League MVP Mike Trout, the U.S. still boasts a star-studded roster and is one of the favorites to walk away as the victor of the WBC.
The U.S. plays its first game of the event Friday against Colombia.
