Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva could be set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury on international duty with Portugal.

Portugal announced Monday that Silva will not play against Poland on Tuesday and that he has returned to Manchester where City's medical staff will presumably assess the unspecified injury.

A statement from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), according to Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News, read: "Following medical and diagnostic tests performed by the FPF Health and Performance Unit, player Bernardo Silva was considered unavailable for the meeting against Poland, to be held this Tuesday in Guimarães."

It's unclear when exactly Silva - who was named man of the match during City's emphatic 3-1 win over rivals Manchester United on Nov. 11 - picked up the injury; he played the entirety of Portugal's goalless draw with Italy on Saturday. That result ensured the defending European champions will participate in the UEFA Nations League finals next June.

After featuring primarily as a substitute during his debut season at Manchester City, the 24-year-old has thrived under Pep Guardiola this term, scoring three goals and providing a trio of assists while starting 11 of the team's 12 Premier League matches.
