Champions League last 16: who said what

Key quotes from Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second legs:

"Last season when we lost to them we were completely outplayed away from home and then we played a great game at Anfield but lost on penalties. To be fair this season they haven't dropped their standards... But after the way we played tonight they won't be that happy to play us."

-- Liverpool manager Arne Slot on his team's rematch against holders Paris Saint-Germain next month.

"Today we showed the right direction, where we want to go and what we want to show everybody, especially each other."

-- Liverpool goalscorer Dominik Szoboszlai after the Reds beat Galatasaray to make the quarter-finals.

"He is a legend. It's clear that some people sometimes say he had a tough season, but tonight he got a lot of opportunities, but still kept the mindset to give me a great ball. I'm so happy for him; he deserves it."

-- Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike on teammate Mohamed Salah, who scored his 50th Champions League goal.

"The first half was very tough. We knew they would press but they were very good man to man. After we scored the first everything went up and down. I was very happy when we scored the third goal."

-- Barcelona coach Hansi Flick after his side dismantled Newcastle 7-2 to reach the quarters.

"There was a dip in our performance after half-time. I don't think we defended well enough in the build-up to their penalty. We should have been going in full of energy and enthusiasm after the first half at 2-2."

-- Newcastle boss Eddie Howe rues his side conceded a penalty late in the first half to fall 3-2 behind.

"We knew it wouldn't be easy against a complicated team who play very well. But with the three-goal advantage from the first leg, we knew how to control the tempo of the game. We obviously wanted to win on the night, and had opportunities to do so, but we're happy to go through to the quarter-finals."

-- Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez after his goal helped them see off Tottenham 7-5 on aggregate despite a 3-2 second-leg loss in London.

"We said before the game we want to win in the same style that we did in the first leg. It's sometimes harder to get up for a game like this, but we were there from minute one to minute 95."

-- Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane after their 10-2 aggregate thumping of Atalanta.
