Porto teenager Ruben Neves looks to become a club legend
Amid speculation linking the teenage midfielder with Europe's elite, Porto star Ruben Neves admits he's intrigued by the idea of becoming a club legend with the Portuguese giants.
With the honour of his first Portugal senior cap, and becoming the youngest player to captain a side in Champions League under his belt, 18-year-old Neves is enjoying his time with the club he grew up supporting.
Attempting to thwart the plans of potential suitors, Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has publicly stated Neves could follow the example of former defender Joao Pinto, who spent his entire career with the club.
Neves discussed the president's remarks with the club's official website, courtesy of ESPN FC.
"To hear the president say that he wants to make me a symbol of the club, it's fantastic. This made me feel very proud," he said.
"I am under contract until June 2019 and, at the moment, I am only thinking about the club achieving its goals."
A versatile midfielder who has excelled in the defensive role, Neves' skill set has become the attraction of several clubs, including Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who is no stranger to the Portuguese giants, having led them to Champions League glory in 2003-04.
