Galatasaray announced Tuesday the club has parted ways with manager Jan Olde Riekerink after the third-place club suffered a shock 2-1 loss to 16th-placed Kayserispor last weekend.
The club's president Dursun Ozbek issued a statement explaining the decision, which took place after the club's board of directors held an emergency meeting two days after the loss.
Riekerink, who joined the club less than one year ago, led Galatasaray to a domestic cup victory over rival Fenerbahce, but the team is five points from the top of the table behind Besiktas this season, an improvement, if only slightly, over its sixth-place finish last season.
The Turkish side has yet to appoint a replacement.
