FC Dallas loans Castillo to Trabzonspor; deal includes option to buy
The on-again, off-again deal involving blistering winger Fabian Castillo and Trabzonspor has reached a conclusion, at least for now.
FC Dallas announced Thursday the club has sent its 24-year-old star to the Turkish side on loan for the remainder of 2016. The deal includes an option for the Super Lig side to make the signing permanent in January.
"We want to thank Fabian for his time with FC Dallas, and his contributions during the last five years," FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said. "It’s been our pleasure to watch Fabian grow from the teenager we all first met in 2011 to the exciting player he is today. We wish him all the best in Turkey."
Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Sports Illustrated's Brian Straus reports that Trabzonspor will pay an initial $3 million for the loan deal, and will have to fork over more money come January to make the signing permanent.
Since joining FC Dallas in 2011 from Deportivo Cali, Castillo has recorded 34 goals and 30 assists in 159 regular-season MLS matches.
