If your initial reaction to hearing Derrick Jones Jr. was participating in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was "who the heck is this guy?," don't worry - you're not alone.
The 20-year-old wing has totaled just 24 minutes of action during the regular season as a member of the Phoenix Suns, having spent more of his time down in the Developmental League with their affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns.
TNT analyst and former Houston Rockets guard Kenny Smith said it best during the 2005 dunk contest: "You don't need names, you need the game." That rings especially true for Jones, who will look to use this platform to boost his stock around the league - and, at the very least, put on an entertaining performance for fans at the Smoothie King Center.
Busting out a between-the-legs, 360-degree jam during warmups like it required no effort is one thing, but there's more where that came from ...
Years before he stepped on a professional court, Jones made mincemeat of the rim during the City of Palms dunk contest in spectacular fashion.
