Lazio will have to make due with life without Miroslav Klose after the German striker sustained a thigh injury during Tuesday's Champions League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.

Klose, 37, who was forced to leave the first leg of Lazio's Champions League play-off victory, is expected to miss the next three matches, including the return leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Aug. 26, the team doctor Stefano Salvatori confirmed to to Lazio Style Radio, courtesy of Football Italia.

The Serie A outfit had anticipated that Klose sustained muscle damage when he was forced to leave at halftime, with scans later confirming the team's fears.

“The outcome of the tests on Klose was what we expected,” Salvatori said.

“The German has suffered a muscular lesion to the biceps femoris in his left thigh. He will not be available for the next three matches.

“After the international break we will conduct more tests to more accurately estimate his recovery time.”

Klose may be able to suit up for Lazio's first match after the international break when it hosts Udinese on Sept. 13.
