Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio out 20 days with thigh injury

Juventus can count on defender Giorgio Chiellini for its season-opening match against Udinese on Sunday, but not on midfielder Claudio Marchisio.

Chiellini returned to full training after suffering a thigh injury in a July friendly against Lechia Gdansk. He was forced to miss the Italian Super Cup - which Juventus won 2-0 over Lazio, earlier in August - but he rejoined the rest of the squad Tuesday.

The good news did not come without some bad, however, as Marchisio missed the same practice session due to a "slight muscular strain in his right thigh." The strain will rule him out for 20 days, according to the club's website.

Marchisio will therefore miss not only the match against Udinese but also a big early season Scudetto challenge against Roma on Aug. 30.
