Mohamed Salah's jersey number selected to honour deceased Egyptian fans

Mohamed Salah's jersey number with Fiorentina was selected to pay tribute to football fans that lost their lives in 2012 during a match at Port Said stadium in Egypt.

The Egyptian midfielder, who recently joined Firorentina on loan from Chelsea, selected 74 in honour of the number of people killed during the crowd disturbance while watching a match between al-Masry and al-Ahly.

The three-year anniversary of the tragedy, which resulted in the banishment of the Egyptian league for two years, passed on  Feb. 1.
