Report: Marco Materazzi joins Indian Super League side Chennai as player-manager
Former Italy defender Marco Materazzi is reportedly the latest veteran to take his talents to India.
According to the Guardian, the 41-year-old who was headbutted by Zinedine Zidane during the 2006 World Cup has signed with Indian Super League club Chennai as a player-manager and is expected to arrive in India next Thursday to join the team's training camp in Bangalore.
Materazzi's move to the South Asian nation follows that of his former teammate Alessandro Del Piero, who officially signed a four-month deal with Delhi Dynamos FC in August.
Other notable names who will participate in the inaugural ISL season include former France and Juventus striker David Trezeguet (FC Goa), former France and Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires (FC Goa), Spaniards Joan Capdevila (North East United FC) and Luis Garcia (Atletico de Kolkata), and former Newcastle striker Michael Chopra (Kirala Blasters FC).
