Catania furious as Chiellini sidelines Bergessio
MILAN, Oct 31, 2013 (AFP) - Serie A strugglers Catania hit out Thursday after key striker Gonzalo Bergessio was sidelined for two months after suffering a fractured shinbone in a clash with Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.
Catania's 4-0 defeat to the champions left the Sicilians third from bottom of the league table.
However they will be without Argentinian marksman Bergessio until after Christmas after he was diagnosed with a fractured fibula following a tackle by Italy defender Chiellini during Wednesday's match in Turin.
Having recently replaced sacked coach Rolando Maran with Luigi De Canio in a bid to climb back up the table, Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti was furious with the setback.
"The tackle was unnecessarily violent, arrogant and cowardly," said Pulvirenti.
