Monza coach Raffaele Palladino has signed a one-year contract extension until the end of next season, the Serie A club announced on Friday.

Palladino replaced Giovanni Stroppa in September and after winning Monza's first ever top-flight match, against Juventus, he guided the club owned by Silvio Berlusconi to safety with six fixtures remaining.

Monza sit 10th in Serie A ahead of their final fixture of the season, at regional rivals Atalanta on Sunday.

Former Italian prime minister Berlusconi bought Monza in 2018 when the club were in the third tier for a reported three million euros ($3.2 million).

The previous year he had sold Milan, who during his 31-year ownership became one of the titans of European football, for 740 million euros.
