Romagnoli reportedly out 4 weeks as Milan's injury crisis worsens
AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli is expected to miss the club's pivotal match at Lazio on Nov. 25 due to a calf injury he suffered while training with the Italian national team.
A club statement said Romagnoli will undergo further tests on his left calf in 10 days. However, the injury could require up to four weeks of rehabilitation, according to Sky Sport Italia correspondent Peppe Di Stefano.
Romagnoli is the latest in a long line of players to be sidelined by injury over the past few weeks. Defenders Mattia Caldara and Mateo Musacchio are each out until the new year, with midfielders Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Biglia set to miss several months of action.
Andrea Conti and Gonzalo Higuain are also suspended for the trip to Lazio.
Romagnoli has emerged as one of Milan's most important players this season, scoring two late winners in second-half stoppage time against Genoa and Udinese.
Cristian Zapata and Stefan Simic are now the only two senior centre-backs available to manager Gennaro Gattuso. Simic has yet to play a single minute of competitive football with the Rossoneri.
Gattuso could elect to play a back three consisting of Ricardo Rodriguez, Zapata, and Davide Calabria against Lazio, a direct rival for one of Serie A's four Champions League spots.
