Juventus advances to knockout phase with victory at Olympiacos
Juventus is through.
On Tuesday, Juventus won 2-0 at Olympiacos and advanced to the Champions League knockout phase. The Old Lady entered the game knowing that a win would be enough to progress, as the Italian club sat one point above Sporting Clube de Portugal in Group D and held a head-to-head advantage. While Juan Cuadrado and Federico Bernardeschi scored in Greece, the Leoes suffered a 2-0 defeat at Barcelona.
"It was important to win tonight as we reached the first important objective of our season with this qualification," Cuadrado said. "We knew it was not going to be easy here, all games are difficult in Europe. We just need to keep improving as we are doing. We haven't conceded recently and I think this is very important for us. We have to continue on this path."
The result means Juventus will participate in the Champions League knockout phase for the fourth season in a row.
