AC Milan defeats Juventus on penalties to win Supercoppa Italiana

AC Milan defeated Juventus 4-3 on penalties to capture the first piece of silverware on offer in Italy this season, the Rossoneri winning the Supercoppa Italiana from the spot after the match finished 1-1.

Mario Pasalic slotted the decisive penalty into the roof of the net, capitalizing after teenage superstar Gianluigi Donnarumma made a fantastic save on Paulo Dybala to set up the winning attempt.

Juventus started the contest on the front foot, and an 18th-minute goal from Giorgio Chiellini gave the Bianconeri an early advantage; the rugged defender was left unmarked on a corner, and turned the ball home with an outstretched shin.

Milan, who grew into the match, hit back in the 38th minute.

An injury to Alex Sandro forced Massimiliano Allegri to throw on veteran Frenchman Patrice Evra, and the enforced change proved crucial, as Milan's magician Suso took over the match from that point on.

The diminutive left-footer tormented Evra for the rest of the encounter, and, unsurprisingly, it was his sweet cross into the penalty area that Giacomo Bonaventura glanced past Gianluigi Buffon for the equaliser.

Milan was the better of the two sides for the remainder of the clash at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar, and after letting a quartet of quality chances go begging, Vincenzo Montella's side was finally rewarded for its impressive showing when Pasalic slotted home his spot-kick.
