RG3 cracks Ravens' roster

Robert Griffin III made the Baltimore Ravens' preliminary 53-man roster Saturday, essentially completing the quarterback's comeback to the NFL after being out of professional football for all of 2017.

NFL teams had until 4 p.m. E.T. to trim their rosters down to 53 players. The Ravens could still release or trade Griffin before their Sept. 9 season opener.

Griffin teetered on the roster bubble throughout the preseason. Despite his strong play, he was facing an uphill battle to crack a team that hasn't kept three quarterbacks since 2009.

Griffin last appeared in a regular-season game in 2016 as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

The former second overall pick was a star during his Rookie of the Year campaign with the Washington Redskins in 2012, but his play has fallen off since reconstructive knee surgery at the end of that season.
