The Los Angeles Angels have activated Mike Trout off of the 10-day disabled list ahead of Friday's game against the Houston Astros.

Trout has appeared in one game since the calendar turned over to August after the superstar outfielder was sidelined with a wrist injury stemming from a stolen base attempt.

After receiving a cortisone shot, Trout was expected to be activated off the DL upon first eligibility. However, Trout left the team due to the death of his brother-in-law.

Trout, 27, was having yet another MVP-caliber year, posting a .309/.459/.624 slash line with 30 home runs and 21 stolen bases over 109 games. Despite still leading the league in OPS, the seven-time All-Star is likely behind both Cleveland Indians infielder Jose Ramirez and Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts in MVP consideration.

In Trout's absence, the Angels slipped even further from contention, going 9-10 since Aug. 1. Los Angeles now sits 14 1/2 back of the division-leading Astros, with both the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners ahead as well.
