Celtics' Brown overwhelmed, excited about Harvard speech Thursday
Last month, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown accepted an invitation to speak at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, and with the event taking place Thursday night, the NBA sophomore is nervous.
"To be honest, I'm overwhelmed," Brown said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Chris Forsberg. "I've been preparing mentally for it, so I'm looking forward to it."
The 21-year-old is known within the Celtics clubhouse as a quiet, cerebral player who doesn't shy away from remarking on social justice issues via social media. Brown attended Cal for one year before being selected by the Celts with the No. 3 pick in the 2016 draft.
While anxious, Brown maintains he's also excited.
"Who wouldn't be intrigued by that? Harvard only asks a select few people to come give a lecture or come speak," he said. "I think the last person they had was like Cornel West or Colin Powell. So it's a pleasure to be able to speak in front of a crowd like that at a prestigious university such as Harvard."
