LeBron James would supposedly meet with the Golden State Warriors in free agency if they could open a max slot for him, though that apparently wasn't always the case.

The Warriors attempted to court James to California back in the summer of 2014 when he opted out of his final season with the Miami Heat to become an unrestricted free agent, but the organization couldn't schedule a meeting with his agent, Rich Paul, according to The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II.

It's unclear as to why James' camp didn't meet with Golden State, though, as Thompson notes, the Warriors were not then the dynasty they are now. Stephen Curry had just earned the first of his subsequent four All-Star nods, the now-retired David Lee was second-in-command in the starting lineup, and the team had just replaced head coach Marc Jackson with Steve Kerr after being bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Of course, James went on to announce he would return to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, setting the stage for the two teams to meet in the next three NBA Finals.
