Report: Clippers don't expect LeBron to consider them in free agency

If LeBron James declines his $35.6-million player option and leaves the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, it reportedly won't be to join the Los Angeles Clippers.

James won't consider signing with the post-Blake Griffin Clippers, nor does the team expect him to give it serious consideration, sources close to both James and the Clippers told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears.

With Monday's blockbuster deal with the Detroit Pistons seeing the massive salary commitment to Griffin leave L.A., the Clippers would theoretically have the cap space to sign James this summer, but they wouldn't be able to add significant secondary pieces through free agency until at least 2019.

After next season, the money owed to DeAndre Jordan, Austin Rivers, Milos Teodosic, Patrick Beverley, and the recently acquired Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic is assured to be off the books. It's also possible that the team isn't done making franchise-altering trades ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, but for now, it appears King James has no plan to conquer Lob City.
