Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler suffered a torn Achilles in Thursday night's loss to the Green Bay Packers and will miss the remainder of the season, sources told John Keim of ESPN.

An MRI confirmed the nature of the injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

"Thank you all for the love and well wishes. I appreciate you all," Ekeler wrote on Instagram Saturday.

The veteran sustained the noncontact injury during the fourth quarter of the 27-18 loss. He was carted to the locker room and quickly ruled out with an Achilles injury.

The 30-year-old led the team in carries Thursday with eight. He produced only 17 rushing yards on those attempts.

Ekeler joined the Commanders last year and totaled 733 yards from scrimmage. He also posted four touchdowns.

Seventh-round rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt becomes the Commanders' starting running back. A preseason standout, Croskey-Merritt rushed for 17 yards on four carries against the Packers.
