Rockies trade Jake Bird to Yankees for 2 prospects
The Colorado Rockies traded right-handed reliever Jake Bird to the New York Yankees for second baseman Roc Riggio and left-hander Ben Shields, the teams announced Thursday.
New York designated outfielder Bryan de la Cruz for assignment in a corresponding move.
Bird owns a 4.73 ERA and 10.5 K/9 in 45 games this season. The 29-year-old helps beef up a Yankees bullpen that added right-hander David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier Thursday.
