San Diego Padres veteran right-hander Yu Darvish will make his season debut Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, manager Mike Shildt announced Sunday, per 97.3 The Fan.

Darvish opened his season on the injured list after dealing with right elbow inflammation during spring training.

The 38-year-old threw a bullpen session Saturday and came away with no issues, clearing the way for him to finally join the rotation.

Darvish will join a rotation that's been decimated by injuries all season. Michael King has been sidelined since mid-May with shoulder inflammation, Joe Musgrove is out for the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and rookie Ryan Bergert hit the IL late in June with a forearm contusion.

Nick Pivetta, Dylan Cease, and Randy Vásquez are San Diego's only healthy starters besides Darvish. Reliever David Morgan is scheduled to open Sunday night's game against the Texas Rangers.

"We always have an open day on the schedule for Yu Darvish to start," Shildt said.

This season marks Darvish's fifth with the Padres and 12th in the majors. The Japan native is in the third season of a six-year, $108-million extension with the club.
