The Boston Bruins signed defenseman Mason Lohrei to a two-year contract with a $3.2-million cap hit, the team announced Monday.

Lohrei notched five goals and 33 points this season, and had a league-worst minus-43 rating. He led all Bruins defenders in scoring. His role grew significantly over the year, and averaged over 21 minutes after Feb. 1.

The 24-year-old was set to become a restricted free agent July 1.

Lohrei debuted in 2023 and has accumulated nine goals and 46 points in 118 career games. He was drafted 58th overall by Boston in 2020.

The Bruins have $23 million of projected cap space after signing Lohrei, according to PuckPedia. Boston's notable remaining restricted free agents include Morgan Geekie and John Beecher.
