The Colorado Rockies optioned struggling first baseman Michael Toglia to Triple-A, the club announced Saturday.

Infielder Keston Hiura has been recalled in a corresponding roster move. The Rockies also designated infielder Aaron Schunk for assignment.

"It wasn’t working out right now for him, and he knows that," Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said, according to The Associated Press. "In the future, we expect big things from Mike."

Toglia hasn't been able to build upon his breakout 2024 campaign so far this season. He's hitting .194 with six home runs, 20 RBIs, and a 39.1% strikeout rate in 54 games. The 26-year-old's 81 strikeouts in 2025 are the most by any player in the league.

Toglia, a first-round pick in the 2019 draft, hit 25 home runs with 55 RBIs and 10 stolen bases across 116 contests last season, his first full year as an everyday player for the Rockies.

Hiura, 28, has registered an .827 OPS with nine home runs and 31 RBIs in 46 Triple-A outings in 2025.
