Houston coach Kelvin Sampson has received a new four-year deal to stay with the school through the 2028-29 season, the program announced Wednesday.

The contract will keep Sampson among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball, sources told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

"It is hard to truly put into words what Kelvin Sampson has meant to our men's basketball program, our athletics department, our university, and our greater Houston community," vice president of athletics Eddie Nunez said in a statement. "His success as a coach on the court is even more impressive when considering the tremendous impact he has had on the many young men to come through our program."

Sampson has served as Houston's coach since 2014. He's taken the Cougars to seven straight March Madness appearances, including two Final Fours in 2021 and 2025.

Houston won a season-record 35 games before losing to Florida in the national championship in April.

Sampson has amassed a 299-84 record with the Cougars, including a 151-48 mark in conference play.

Prior to joining Houston, he served as head coach at Montana Tech, Washington State, Oklahoma, and Indiana. Sampson was also an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets.
