New England Patriots defensive lineman Christian Barmore announced he's been cleared to participate in football activities after his 2024 season ended because of blood clots.

Barmore anticipates being a full participant when New England's voluntary organized team activities begin next week. He's also optimistic about being available for the club's Sept. 7 season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.

"Yeah. That's the goal. I just have to keep following the medical team, but everything is looking really well," Barmore said Thursday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Barmore, 25, has regularly attended the Patriots' voluntary offseason program over the past six weeks.

Barmore was limited to four games in 2024 after being placed on the non-football illness list in July and missing the Patriots' first 10 games. The Alabama product missed the final three games of the season after experiencing reoccurring symptoms in relation to blood clots.

When asked if doctors knew what led to the reoccurrence, the 6-foot-5, 315-pound defensive lineman declined to answer. Instead, Barmore opted to share how last year's ordeal took a toll on him.

"I don't want to ever be in that situation again, or anybody in the world to go through that," Barmore said. "That stuff was no joke. It was a hard challenge."

The Patriots are eager to see the 2021 second-round pick return to action. The standout defensive lineman has recorded 139 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks in 48 games over four seasons.

New England's defensive interior will receive a huge boost with Barmore back in the mix. The club is eager to see what prized free-agent signing Milton Williams and Barmore can do paired together next season.
