The Toronto Blue Jays transferred right-hander Max Scherzer to the 60-day injured list Monday.

Scherzer now isn't eligible to come off the IL until the end of May. The 40-year-old's been sidelined with a reoccurring thumb issue since March 30, and he's already received multiple cortisone shots.

However, Scherzer started throwing bullpen sessions again in April.

The three-time Cy Young winner has only made one start this season. He'll use the extra time on the IL to ramp up, notes Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The Blue Jays also officially announced they've signed right-handers Spencer Turnbull and José Ureña to one-year contracts, moved reliever Erik Swanson to the 60-day IL, and optioned left-hander Josh Walker to Triple-A.
