Report: Yankees, Marlins have agreed to deal for Stanton

Less than 24 hours after Shohei Ohtani surprised the world by joining the Los Angeles Angels, Giancarlo Stanton has apparently found a new home as well.

Stanton will reportedly be on his way to the Big Apple, as the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins have agreed to a deal for the reigning National League MVP, according to sources of Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The deal isn't done yet, according to a source of MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, but Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports the parameters of a deal have been agreed upon.

A source tells Jon Morosi of MLB Network the deal is still pending Stanton's consent and the Yankees' approval of his physical, although The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports the expectation is that Stanton will approve the trade to New York.

Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro appears to be at least one player also involved in the trade, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, who reports the Marlins will receive veterans and prospects - but none of New York's top ones.

Stanton would need to waive his no-trade clause for a deal to get done, but the Yankees were on a list of four preferred teams the slugger would do this for.

After the Marlins disclosed during the offseason they were interested in reducing payroll, Stanton's future in Miami appeared to be in jeopardy. The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals both recently appeared to be front-runners for Stanton - and even held meetings with the four-time All-Star - but he would not waive his no-trade clause to go to either team according to reports.

Stanton is still owed $295 million on his contract, which includes an opt-out clause following the 2020 season.

The 28-year-old Stanton would add even more power to a Yankees' lineup that features AL home run champ Aaron Judge. The pair combined for 111 home runs last season.

Over the course of his eight-year career, Stanton owns a .268/360/.554 slash line with 267 home runs and 672 RBIs.
