Guardians reacquire Nolan Jones from Rockies for Tyler Freeman
The Colorado Rockies traded outfielder Nolan Jones back to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for infielder/outfielder Tyler Freeman, the teams announced Saturday.
The Guardians traded Jones to the Rockies for minor-league utility player Juan Brito on Nov. 15, 2022.
Jones was terrific for the Rockies in 2023, finishing fourth in National League Rookie of the Year voting after hitting .297/.389/.542 with 20 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 20 steals in 106 games.
The 26-year-old failed to produce similar numbers last season, with his OPS dipping to .641 (75 OPS+) with three homers in 79 games. His defense also slipped, with Jones recording minus-four defensive runs saved in 2024 after posting a plus-10 mark in the same category two seasons ago.
Freeman, 25, slashed .209/.305/.321 with 32 RBIs in 383 plate appearances last season.
The former second-round pick provides the Rockies with a versatile defender who has played six different positions throughout his big-league career.
