The New York Mets agreed to a one-year contract with infielder Nick Madrigal on Friday.

The deal is worth $1.35-million, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Madrigal spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Cubs before being non-tendered in November. He hit .221/.280/.256 with no home runs, three doubles, and one stolen base in 51 games.

Year GP HR SB AVG/OBP/SLG OPS+
2024 51 0 1 .221/.280/.256 54
2023 92 2 10 .263/.311/.352 83
2022 59 0 3 .249/.305/.282 66
2021 54 2 1 .305/.349/.425 111

The 27-year-old was selected fourth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox but has struggled throughout his career. He's appeared in 285 contests across five campaigns, slashing .274/.323/.344 with four home runs and 39 doubles.

Madrigal has made 170 appearances at second base and 108 at third base as a major leaguer. He ranked in the 96th percentile in outs above average in 2023 but struggled defensively last season.

Infielder Luis De Los Santos was designated for assignment to make room for Madrigal.
