The San Diego Padres agreed to a one-year deal with catcher Elias Díaz, the team announced.

The pact includes a mutual option for 2026. It'll reportedly pay Díaz $3.5 million in 2025, sources told Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase.

Díaz appeared in 12 games for the Padres last season after the Colorado Rockies released him in August.

The 2023 All-Star Game MVP hit a combined .265/.313/.382 with six home runs, 20 doubles, and 39 RBIs in 96 games for the Padres and Rockies last season.

Defensively, Díaz ranked in the 87th percentile in pop time and in the 77th percentile in framing while throwing out 27.7% of attempted base stealers.

He'll join Luis Campusano, Brett Sullivan, and Martín Maldonado on the Padres' catching depth chart.

San Diego was reportedly discussing a trade with the Minnesota Twins involving Christian Vázquez, but it appears the Padres are no longer an option for the backstop, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes.
