Longtime blue-liner Alex Goligoski is calling it quits after a lengthy career, he confirmed to The Athletic's Joe Smith on Thursday.

Goligoski played the last three seasons for the Minnesota Wild. The 39-year-old was born and raised in the North Star State and starred for the University of Minnesota.

He also spent five campaigns with the Arizona Coyotes, parts of six with the Dallas Stars, and parts of four with the Pittsburgh Penguins to begin his career.

The left-shot defenseman's output and ice time dwindled over the last two years, and he was a healthy scratch for much of his final season. But Goligoski was once a productive player, collecting at least 35 points in seven campaigns, including a career-high 46 along with a personal-best 14 goals in 2010-11.

He registered 87 tallies and 388 helpers over 1,078 regular-season games, adding seven goals and 14 assists across 47 playoff contests.

Goligoski helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in 2009. The Pens drafted him 61st overall in 2004.
