Hall of Famer and Mariners legend Edgar Martinez has been named Seattle's hitting coach for the rest of the 2024 season, the club announced Friday.

Martinez will replace Jarret DeHart, who was fired along with manager Scott Servais on Thursday. Dan Wilson, another former longtime Mariners player, is the club's new permanent skipper.

"When Dan reached out to me, I told him I'd be happy to assist him this season in whatever way I could," Martinez said in a press release. "I know the talent and work ethic this group of hitters has, and I hope that I can be of help to them."

The 61-year-old was inducted into Cooperstown in 2019 after an 18-year run with the Mariners that saw him become a seven-time All-Star thanks to a .312/.418/.515 career slash line with 309 homers, 1,261 RBIs, and 2,247 hits.

"I'm confident his deep knowledge of hitting and experience with our hitters will be a great addition," Wilson said.

Martinez and Wilson will attempt to fix a Mariners offense that's scored the fourth-fewest runs and has the worst team batting average in the majors.
