The Colorado Rockies placed catcher Elias Díaz on waivers, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Díaz, last year's All-Star Game MVP, has roughly $1.5 million remaining on his contract. He's slated for free agency after this season.

As a veteran who's accrued over five years of MLB service, Díaz can reject an assignment to the minor leagues should he pass through waivers unclaimed. He'd become a free agent in such a case.

The 33-year-old has hit .270/.315/.378 with five home runs across 84 games with the Rockies in 2024. He's struggled mightily since July, however, posting a measly .479 OPS and 21 wRC+.

Díaz owns a career 82 OPS+ across 10 MLB campaigns.
