The Seattle Mariners signed outfielder Victor Robles to a major-league contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Robles will take Jonatan Clase's spot on the active roster and joins the Mariners in Oakland on Tuesday.

The Washington Nationals released the 27-year-old Saturday after failing to find a way to trade the former top prospect once he was designated for assignment.

Robles spent eight years with the Nationals, posting a .236/.311/.356 slash line with 31 homers, 70 stolen bases, and 156 RBIs over 530 games. He finished sixth in 2019 NL Rookie of the Year voting en route to helping the club win a World Series.
