Haney, Garcia strike deal for April 20 title fight
Two of boxing's biggest stars will go face to face in April.
Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will fight for Haney's WBC junior welterweight title on April 20 in Las Vegas, it was announced Friday.
The fight will be Garcia's first crack at a legitimate title, while Haney looks to defend the 140-pound strap he won by defeating Regis Prograis in December.
Haney moved up to 140 pounds after conquering the lightweight division, becoming the youngest undisputed champion in the four-belt era in the process.
The undefeated 25-year-old's camp had been trying to ink a deal with Garcia for the past couple of months with start-and-stop negotiations occurring since talks got underway in December.
Meanwhile, Garcia is fresh off a knockout victory over Oscar Duarte in December. It was his first fight since losing to Gervonta Davis last April.
The 25-year-old Californian has been clamoring for a marquee fight since defeating Duarte. In late January, it looked like Garcia would fight Rolando Romero in April, but Garcia claimed he was lied to after Romero's camp announced the fighter would take on Isaac Cruz instead.
Haney and Garcia have a history that dates back to their amateur days when they split a six-bout series.
