The Detroit Tigers signed infield prospect Colt Keith to a six-year contract extension, the team announced Sunday.
The pact runs through the 2029 season, followed by club options in 2030, 2031, and 2032.
Keith will make $28,642,500 over the first six years of the deal: $2.5M in 2024, $3.5M in 2025, $4M per season from 2026-27, and $5M per season from 2028-29. The deal also includes a $2M signing bonus, $10M club option for 2030 with a $2,642,500 buyout, $13M club option for 2031…

"There are positives and negatives and risks on both sides," Keith said Tuesday about signing a lengthy deal at such a young age, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
"Best case for both of us is all of the option years are exercised, we win a couple of World Series, I make myself a boatload of money, and I'm still a free agent at 31."
The Tigers selected Keith in the fifth round of the 2020 entry draft out of Biloxi High School in Mississippi.
The 22-year-old has never appeared in MLB but posted impressive numbers in the minor leagues, authoring a .303/.388/.514 slash line with 41 home runs and 174 RBIs in 258 games across various levels. In 2023, Keith put up a .932 OPS with 27 homers, 38 doubles, and 101 RBIs between Double-A and Triple-A.
Defensively, Keith played most of his Double-A reps at third base, with the majority of his Triple-A playing time coming at second base last season.
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said the team's primary focus is to use Keith as a second baseman in 2024.
Keith ranks as the No. 2 prospect in the Tigers' farm system behind outfielder Max Clark, according to MLB Pipeline.
The Tigers designated right-hander Devin Sweet for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Keith.
