Top-5 recruit Edgecombe commits to Baylor over Duke, Kentucky
V.J. Edgecombe, the No. 5 overall recruit on the ESPN 100 for 2024, has committed to Baylor, he told ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi on Sunday.
Edgecombe is the Bears' highest-ranked commitment in over a decade. The 6-foot-4 forward chose Scott Drew's program over Duke and Kentucky.
"Baylor has a winning culture, a great staff and head coach. Coach Drew is a genuine person; he has built an incredible program," he told Borzello and Biancardi. "There was a deep connection with Baylor. They have a strong foundation of faith and there was also a spiritual connection. That was important to me."
Edgecombe joins four-star prospects Jason Asemota and Robert Wright III in Baylor's stacked 2024 recruiting class.
Drew has thrived on the recruiting trail in recent years, landing future NBAers Kendall Brown and Keyonte George in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
The Bears are currently ranked 14th in the nation with a 14-2 record.
